19th Century Bucks Point Lace and Whitework Bonnet

Rows of hand embroidery and drawnwork cover the translucent white fabric of this early 19th century bonnet. A fairly large bonnet, about 6 inches from ruffle to the edge of the lace panel in the back.

Very good condition -- a couple of small holes in the lace back, a small bit of fraying in the drawnwork. Still a beautiful bonnet to display on a large doll, or to use for a very special Christening.

See details of lace, embroidery and drawnwork, and gathering strings in the following pictures.

DrawstringsDrawstringspadStrings encased within tucks in the fabric were used to gather the bonnet and adjust the size. All the gathering strings in the bonnet are still present, and for the most part still workable.

One surrounds the face; two others are spaced across the sides of the bonnet, another is at bottom, at the nape of the neck.
