It often takes a bit of fiddling and meddling to figure out which rows belong to which thread. A small safety pin will hold loops and keep them from unraveling again while you figure out what to do next. While working on a row, it can be helpful to use a separate, tiny pin for each loop. This makes it easier to work them from side to side or in a different order.
