Circa 1900, Edged with Binche or Flanders

A particularly airy and light handkerchief, edged with very soft and fine bobbin lace, that might be called either Binche or Flanders, in honor of the background of snowballs surrounded by haloes.

The motifs are a stylized, vaguely floral pattern typical of turn-of-the century (1900) Flanders bobbin lace. The lace is joined to the fabric with a meticulous edge of drawnwork. (See photos below for more details)

The lace at the corners is elegantly turned (no corner seams).

Handkerchief is about 11 inches square overall. Lace is about an inch deep.
