The Droschel mesh, braided on two sided and twisted on the other four, is put in after the motifs are made and arranged. The lace is notorious for haphazard carryovers. In this example, pairs are carried over on both the front, when the motifs were made, and on the back, as the mesh was inserted.
Condition is only fair. Some wear and breaks in the mesh. Instead of a traditional engrelure or top (footside) edging, this lace has an edging of machine made picots. It is not clear if this is original, or added later.
