Handkerchief edged with a border of Point de Paris bobbin lace with a scrolling stylized floral design. Small size of the handkerchief, the little satin stitch embroideries on the fabric, and the hemstitched edge all suggest a turn-of-the 1900s date. The stylized scrolling floral pattern with a center point and mirror image takes its inspiration from the eighteenth century Potten Kant style.
This lace has been named for its hexagonal background mesh, sometimes called a Point de Paris mesh. Corner is nicely turned with no seam.
White, excellent condition.
About 10 1/4 inch square.
