Approximately 12 inches long, 1 3/4 inch wide.
Bath Brussels is the term often applied to a rather deteriorated design and technque form of Brussels lace, with bobbin lace motifs and a background of Droschel handmade mesh. The characteristics of the lace are rather loosely formed motifs -- ascribed both to the taste of the time, and to badly worn prickings with large, sometimes nearly lost pinholes.

 | Detail of Bath Brussels The Droschel mesh, braided on two sided and twisted on the other four, is put in after the motifs are made and arranged. The lace is notorious for haphazard carryovers. In this example, pairs are carried over on both the front, when the motifs were made, and on the back, as the mesh was inserted.
Condition is only fair. Some wear and breaks in the mesh. Instead of a traditional engrelure or top (footside) edging, this lace has an edging of machine made picots. It is not clear if this is original, or added later.
