A much beloved and cherished bonnet of fine lace and embroidered fabric -- the fine hamdmade lace, and many repairs testify to that!
The fabric is extremely fine and translucent, and decorated overall with drawnwork and embroidery. The face is edged with handmade Bucks Point English bobbin lace, the back is a bobbin lace applied to a handmade Vrai Droschel ground.
There are extensive repairs throughout, on the fabric, and on the bobbin lace round. The lace edging the nape of the neck is hand embroidered machine made net that does not match the lace ruffles. There also is an insertion of machine net lace in the center back, which seems to serve to enlarge the bonnet. It may be that the different lace was added when the insertion was put in.
Even with all the repairs, it is still a very charming bonnet that displays well. Details of the lace and fabric are show in the following pictures.

 | Bobbin Lace Round The back medallion is a handmade made bobbin lace applied to a handmade vrai droschel mesh. Two types of tallies or wheatears were used: the square shape shown here, and the fine pointed wheatears shown in the "repairs" picture. These both would be consistent with English Honiton bobbin lace. Vrai droschel was sometimes used with early 19th century Honiton.
