Duchesse bobbin lace collar, probably mid-nineteenth century. Nearly mint condition, probably has been almost never worn. Darkened to deep ecru from age, a couple of small stains.
Nevertheless, this is a very lovely collar, with nicely shaped flowers, a lovely bobbin lace bouquet in the center back, and nice details on the scrollwork.
About 9 1/4 inch deep at center back. About 56 inches long at the inside edge.

 | Scrollwork detailing Scrollwork is especially graceful, and and is blended into the overall design with overlapping leaves and flowers.
Halfstitch in the scrollwork is decorated with little quatrefoil raised work.

| | | Details of design and flowers Flowers in the lace are just a little different, and very well shaped for Duchesse. Much of the raised work is a ten-stick woven edge instead of the more common bundled threads. This adds an extra bit of definition and crispness to the design, and a bit more stability in the shape.
