Meandering ribbon-like design with connecting bars is typical of Milanese bobbin lace -- and also Flemish of about the same 18th century period. Some specific detail, however, suggest this is Milanese not Flemish. The top edge, or footside, is often a continuous part of the design in Milanese.

 | Details of Milanese bobbin lace Note how the tape-like clothwork extends from the top of the main motifs to form the footside, which connects to the next motif. The tape typically doubles back on itself, and is connected with "sewings".
