Mending Kit - Needles and Threads

An assortment of basic supplies to begin mending lace and lacy linens.

A sampling of very fine needles include #12 short bead and bead embroidery needles, good for sewing fine whitework without punching large holes in the fabric, and for slipping through laces without damaging fibers or breaking threads. Adhesive finger-protectors keep the sharp, fine needles from pricking your fingers.

Fine threads for re-attaching broken bars include white and ecru cotton in 120/2, 140/2, and 185/2 weight. Fine natural silk in 200/2 can be used as-is, or split the plies to obtain an even finer weight.

Heavier thread can be used for replacing missing bars in cutwork or needle lace.

A sample of silk crepeline fabric can be used for very small patches, to support fraying lace and whitework, or threads can be pulled to use in darning and mending the finest of tulles and laces.

A swatch of dark green felt with an adhesive plastic fill makes a useful pad for working.
